Using The Window AC On Hot Days Can Precede New Mold Damage Under The Window In Miami
Finding yourself faced with an unusually hot and humid day in Miami over the winter is fairly common. Because using window units to keep cool air flowing into your home might not happen daily or even regularly, sporadic use might lead to unexpected problems. Some of these problems might happen after insects lay eggs or casings inside drainage tubes or lines, inside the tray, or otherwise damage the unit. A lack of use can also mean that filters hold dust or other debris that make the unit work harder than normal.
The area below window units in many Miami homes contain mold damage because of steady drips coming from the cooling units. The amount of moisture that the wall is exposed to might seem inconsequential, but microbes do not require very much moisture to begin penetrating into the wall's surfaces and causing it to deteriorate. Microbes and their spores can also end up elsewhere in your home, including on the interior portion of the wall where you visibly see them.
While our infrared imaging equipment can detect temperature changes that show where dampness exists, we use digital meters to determine how much moisture a wall contains. Because a wall's exterior can feel dry to your touch, it is not an accurate indicator of the amount of moisture that same wall's hidden interior holds. Retained moisture is perfect for mold growth to continue, long after you have stopped the dripping from an air conditioner.
We can find these damp areas for you, and also locate hidden mold damage before it becomes a problem with crumbling walls that let outside pests come into your home. The health effects from exposure to mold and spores can also become a concern. After we locate all of the places that harbor mold, we can remediate them, which leaves your residence “Like it never even happened.”
