Remediating the USS N.C. Battleship Welcoming Center
Being apart of the Large Loss and Natural Disaster Recovery Teams means being prepared to respond to large-scale damages during hurricane season. When Hurricane Florence caused severe damage to the roof of "the USS North Carolina Visiting Center," SERVPRO was called in to provide emergency assistance to the battleship attraction.
The storm caused damage to "over %60 percent" of the roof. When the roof of the 13,000 square-foot building was compromised, it allowed water from the storm to cascade inside. It was apparent that the visiting center was suffering from severe flood damage and needed professional assistance as soon as possible. When SERVPRO of Cutler Bay received the call, we assembled a team of IICRC-certified technicians.
SERVPRO faced a problem when it came to getting to our job site. "Due to flooded roads," our team had to think of a creative way to access the site of the damage, as getting to the site by vehicle was no longer an option. Our team decided to hire rent a boat that could carry us and our equipment across the Cape Fear River. Thanks to the help of the boat, SERVPRO was able to get our water removal and drying equipment to the scene of the damages.
Once we arrived at the scene, our team of talented technicians immediately set off to investigate the damages and devise a plan to remediate them. To properly oversee the multiple-day process of removing flood waters, demolishing unsavable structures, and drying out what was left, members our team ate and slept in an on-site RV. Here at SERVPRO, we are proud to do whatever it takes to make sure a job is done effectively and swiftly. We are happy to serve our community and to be apart of the Large Loss and Natural Disaster Recovery Teams.
