What Water Damage Does To Personal Belongings In Previously Flooded Palmetto Bay Homes
6/20/2022 (Permalink)
Palmetto Bay homes with visible water damage received the care necessary to restore them.
Water Damage Restoration
Some of the homes in Palmetto Bay that became waterlogged during the last hurricane could begin showing residual effects of those horrific weather conditions. Especially true of houses that seemed only to have slight amounts of cosmetic damage, signs of the destruction can slip under the radar of visual inspections and then show up later.
Palmetto Bay homes with visible water damage received the care necessary to restore them. However, some homeowners and residents might find that increased humidity and higher moisture levels eventually damage their personal belongings. This can happen when the ground remains saturated in depressions near the home or because hidden pockets of moisture become trapped slowly and evaporate into the property.
Water damage can easily cause your belongings to rot and crumble, develop stains and odors from microbial activity or dyes, stick together, and do many other things you probably would like to avoid. SERVPRO can help with all of these issues and more. We know how to mitigate the problem from the water source to the cleaning and restoration of your valuable personal possessions.
Many people collect items as hobbies; sometimes, these collections come at a high price. The loss of one can entail a great deal of difficulty locating a replacement. Because of their age or the limited number the company produced, some items are irreplaceable.
While water easily damages homes and belongings alike, we also use water and specialized cleaning agents to undo much of the damage condensation and increased moisture levels produce. Cleaning and laundering with unique techniques and agents may take time, but the effects leave belongings in preloss condition. Water damage does not need to mean that you lose your prized collectibles when we perform the detailed work required.
Cleaning one at a time, rinsing well until no residue remains, then ensuring each is dried carefully by blotting with a soft cloth, followed by air drying, can save collectibles made from metal, wood, ceramic, glass, and other substances.
We can restore other items in your home that might seem beyond repair. We at SERVPRO take restoring your belongings seriously. Even when water contains pathogens, we have the training and experience to ensure your property returns to you free of microbes.
SERVPRO of Cutler Bay has the tools needed to perform the above, plus the equipment to restore your home to a dry condition to prevent future water damage. Our 24-hour services are available to you by calling our local number, (305) 278-8484, any day of the year.

SERVPRO is Equipped to Restore Your Flood Damaged Kendall Home
Coastal communities always have a mindset of protecting themselves and their neighbors from the threats of natural disasters. The unfortunate side of the mindset is that it often is an overwhelmingly impossible task. With the fast-changing weather systems out from the coast, Kendall homes can go from mild and pleasant weather to raging storms in a short span of time, leaving homeowners with little time to brace themselves for what might occur.
While these raging storms can create all manner of lasting damages to your home, flood damage to your Kendall home might get discussed the least. Often this is considered a cause-and-effect situation following significant structural damage or a weakening of the exterior of your home, which allowed water to pour through unabated during the severe weather event. Flooding in your home is nothing to brush off, as the damage it has already caused only ends up getting worse.
When Storm Damage Passes Through
After gale-force winds and a raging storm that passed through, your entire neighborhood is likely to walk their property and assess the potential damage. After this initial assessment of their home’s condition is when people think about our experienced SERVPRO team. We train in flood damage restoration techniques so that the process completes promptly and professionally.
Since damage to the structure of your home was a likely culprit to the excessive water damage that you experienced, sealing off these holes with tarps and boards can help to limit the further elemental damage. While significant damages to the structural integrity of your home require a residential construction contractor to repair, part of our restoration process involves controlled demolition to prepare your home for its reconstruction needs.
Extraction and drying are processes that are the backbone of flood damage restoration and two steps that have to be done correctly. Failure to remove all the water could allow for mold growth and fungal organisms to sprout up in the affected area. Our SERVPRO professionals utilize thermal technology to ensure that all of the water has been removed and dried successfully.
Severe weather can strike the community without warning. When you find yourself ill-prepared and in need of restoration services from storm and flood damage, trust SERVPRO of Cutler Bay. Our certified restoration specialists are available 24/7 by calling (305) 278-8484.

SERVPRO Flood Damage Restorers Can Help Manage Damaged Recovery for your Cutler Bay Home and Contents
How do I prepare for a Storm?
It is essential to practice flood awareness in a high-risk storm area like Cutler Bay. Preparing ahead of time for the impact of storms is vital when local services are likely to be under stress. SERVPRO operates twenty-four hours a day to assist residents with the damaging effects of storms on their property. As a resident, you should put a flood preparedness kit ahead of time to ensure your safety when there are storm warnings.
What should I include in a Storm Preparedness Kit?
- Insurance papers and other crucial documentation
- Battery-powered transistor radios
- Medication
- Flashlight
Who can guard my property after evacuating during a storm?
Temporary evacuation during a storm can be vital; however, you may have difficulty keeping your home secure and limiting flood damage in your Cutler Bay residence. SERVPRO restorers work between first responders and general contractors. Our goal is to secure your property from unlawful intrusion and prepare the site for further remodeling. We can install temporary boards to prevent trespass in your home. Our technicians can also pump water out of the property while establishing an appropriate drying protocol to limit damage to both your structure and contents.
How long will it take to restore a flooded property?
An industry-standard time to mitigate emergency damage is two to five days. That gives our technicians enough time to remove water, clean, and dry the property. In many situations, you can return home after five days. However, properties with features like wood flooring may have to wait longer for their home to return to preloss condition. Wood absorbs moisture and becomes warped. Wooden floors can sometimes take months to restore, but in most cases, you can continue to use the property during the final steps of restoration.
Securing your home against looters and water damage is possible using a professional restorer. Contact SERVPRO of Cutler Bay at (305) 278-8484.

Storm damage can be overwhelming for any property owner. SERVPRO is here to help. Just call (305) 278-8484.
SERVPRO Can Pick the Correct Category of Cleaning Products to Match the Soiling at Your Home
One of the prominent effects of flooding is the deep or widespread soiling of contents and spaces in a home. Cleaning is a reliable solution to restore the preloss conditions. Using the right cleaning agents is crucial in realizing the best results when cleaning your Cutler Bay home.
Flood damage cleaning in Cutler Bay homes can involve several steps, including removing abundant soils such as mud or silt and clearing stains that develop from material deterioration. Eliminating traces of chemicals and biohazards is also necessary. These different tasks require a blend of cleaning products. SERVPRO combines various strategies, including phasing the cleaning process and using multiple products for better outcomes.
The Most Helpful Product Categories Include:
- Emulsifiers
- Wall and all-surface cleaners
- Industrial cleaners
- Disinfectants
Each product category helps take care of a unique problem. For instance, emulsifiers help remove soils from fabrics or carpets conveniently. SERVPRO uses powdered emulsifiers with buffering properties that help maintain alkaline conditions throughout the cleaning process.
Industrial cleaners are useful in removing greasy soils such as residues from fuel oils mixed in with the floodwater, which may prove challenging to remove when using detergents. Disinfectants, on the other hand, are mandatory for removing contaminants. SERVPRO uses EPA-registered products such as Vanquish, a synthetic detergent-disinfectant combo that works against a broad spectrum of microorganisms.
The Best Disinfectants to Use in a Flooding Situation are Those With:
- Virucidal properties
- Fungicidal properties
- Bactericidal properties

Water Damage Technicians in Cutler Bay Discuss the Key Factors for Structural Drying
9/9/2021 (Permalink)
Contact SERVPRO today for assistance with storm flood damage in your Cutler Bay home. We have the tools and skilled technicians you need.
Team SERVPRO Follows a Proven Process When Remediating Your Flood Damaged Home
If water ever leaks into your Cutler Bay home, getting it removed promptly is essential. If items inside your house stay saturated for an extended period, materials can lose their structural integrity. If moisture levels inside organic materials such as wood and drywall stay elevated, then microbial growth can occur.
The first step in saving wet materials from getting ruined is the extraction phase. During every water damage remediation project in Cutler Bay, vacuuming up as much moisture as possible is vital. Our SERVPRO technicians use specialized extraction equipment on carpet and upholstery before the drying stage begins.
Once the extractor stops pulling out water, we begin the structural drying process. When reducing moisture levels within building materials and contents, there are many factors that affect how quickly materials will dry. Our SERVPRO experts take humidity and moisture level readings to devise a plan to dry out the structure as quickly as possible.
Water Removal and Flood Damage Restoration
The main factors that can affect how quickly a building will dry include the amount of water to be evaporated, the indoor and outdoor temperatures, humidity, and air movement. During evaporation, water always seeks dry air to move to so it can create an equilibrium. Moisture from building materials and contents moves first to the dry air on the surface. Then, wet air moves to areas where the air is drier.
Evaporation occurs at a faster rate when the indoor temperatures in the building are between 70 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit. Depending on how wet the materials got, dehumidifiers work well to remove moisture from the air after it evaporates off of the wet substances. Materials dry best when the relative humidity in the affected room is between 30% and 50%. Air movement that gets created with industrial air movers causes circulation that pushes the wet air away from damp items.
Structural drying is most efficient when equipment is used to manipulate the factors of drying so that it gets completed at a quicker rate. Depending on what gets affected and how bad the damage is, various combinations and types of drying equipment and dehumidifiers can be utilized. For help creating an environment conducive to rapid structural drying, call SERVPRO of Cutler Bay at (305) 278-8484 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Adherence to Restoration Industry Best Practices Guide SERVPRO Crews Responding to Cutler Bay Flooding
After fierce, sustained winds and torrential rains attack, flood damage to Cutler Bay homes seems inescapable. The water invading your home is by definition contaminated and enters through:
- Leaking roofs from storm winds ripping off shingles and flashing
- Smashed windows, doors, and siding holes created as tree limbs and debris fly into exteriors
- Overland flooding, walls of water pushing through egress windows, or seeping through foundation cracks
Why Is Flood Water in Cutler Bay So Dirty?
Although rainwater seems contaminant-free as it falls from the sky, when it gathers force and then breaks into your house, it rapidly mixes with a wide range of substances, creating chemical and biohazard concerns:
- Crumbling building materials that can contain asbestos and lead
- Moldy leaves and branches
- Mud and silt from road and sidewalk debris
- Fluids from overwhelmed sanitary waste needing sewage cleanup
How Do SERVPRO Flooding and Storm Damage Restorers Manage the Contaminated Water?
SERVPRO managers and crews receive extensive training from the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC), much of which focuses on the containment and safe removal of storm damage and flooding. After an assessment and planning specific to your Cutler Bay home, our crews:
- Set up containment areas using 1.6 mil polyethylene barriers augmented with negative pressure air scrubbing equipment
- Detect and release all trapped water
- Collect and remove the contaminated muck and water for appropriate disposal following protocols for your locality, completing paperwork and the actual transfer of fluids and debris
- Clean and disinfect affected surfaces with EPA-registered products
- Conduct effective structural drying
- Process the contents of your home either in a sheltered space on your property or at our production facility
- Arrange for repairs and reconstruction of damaged structural components

Flood remediation is not for the faint of heart. SERVPRO has trained professionals you need for the service of your home.
What hazardous materials should homeowners be aware of after a flood in Cutler Bay?
The town of Cutler Bay was named after Dr. William Cutler, who visited the area in 1880. He encouraged settlement of the site, and the small village became known as Cutler. It wasn't until 1905 that the town was incorporated, taking Cutler Bay's name over several other popular titles such as Pine Ridge, Cutler Ridge, and Old Cutler Bay. As of 2010, about 40,000 people were living in the area.
There are several interesting venues to visit in Cutler and the nearby towns. These include:
- Charles Deering Estate
- Cutler Fossil Site
- Whispering Pines Park
- Lakes by the Bay Park
- Zoo Miami
- Burr's Berry Farm
- Larry and Penny Thompson Park
- Southland Mall
- Miami Children's Museum
Charles Deering Estate
The estate preserves the 1920's era home and property of Charles Deering, an industrialist interested in protecting the environment. The estate is considered a cultural asset and is listed on the national register of historic places. It is a popular destination for residents and tourists visiting the area. There are programs, classes, and tours offered during the year.
Cutler Fossil Site
Located on the Charles Deering Estate, the fossil site is located at a sinkhole in Palmetto Bay. The bones of Pleistocene animals and artifacts of Paleo-Indians have been excavated at the site. The site was not discovered until 1979, and excavation began in 1985. At the time, the sinkhole was 16 feet above sea level. However, in the Pleistocene era, it was over 330 feet above sea level and many miles from the sea.
Lakes by the Bay Park
This 45-acre multi-use park offers three baseball fields, four batting cages, two soccer fields used for football and lacrosse, a .6 mile exercise path, a playground, and a concession building. There is a canoe/kayak launch site where you can also join monthly kayak tours. Adjacent to the Lakes by the Bay Park is the 47 acre Miami-Dade County Park.
Burr's Berry Farm
Burr's Berry Farm has been in operation for over 60 years offering seasonally grown tomatoes, strawberries, sunflowers, bell-peppers, snapdragons, herbs, and lettuce. There are field trips, hay wagon rides, corn mazes, and pumpkin patches to explore. The farm stand sells hot dogs, milkshakes, baked goods, juices, and fresh vegetables. Burr's Berry Farm is a great place to spend quality time with the family.
Avoid Infections from Hazardous Materials While Cleaning up Flood Damage in Cutler Bay

Smaller storms also create havoc year-round in Cutler Bay.
Residents in Cutler Bay often have less wear and tear on their vehicles because of the flat terrain. With no hills to climb, our vehicles travel in straighter, more level roadways than those found in many other areas near us. This flatness can also cause problems for us in other ways.
When you live in a flat, basin-shaped area, not only does water from storms accumulate quite evenly across the surface, it also drains exceedingly slow. Water always takes the path of least resistance, regardless of where that path goes.
When rain itself falls from overhead directly into a boat, if debris either keeps your boat from draining or punctures a depression in the boat cover, your boat can sink. While sinking might not happen after just one stormy weekend, the interior’s furnishings might not fare too well. Likewise, campers and RVs with exposure to the sun and rain can rust and leak. Rain is a great friend for gardens and lawns, but the same rain can leave your boat cushions too soggy to use the next time you want to go sailing or fishing.
What Can Flooding in Cutler Bay Do?
Storms, particularly those that result in flooding, cost property owners in Cutler Bay thousands of dollars every year. Residences are not the only type of property that can sustain damage from torrential rain and overland floods. SERVPRO recommends insuring anything that such water can cause harm to, including:
- Recreational vehicles
- Motorcycles
- Boats
- Outbuildings and other exterior structures
- Anything else of value.
How Can People Protect Their Property?
Using the same principle of placing a vehicle or motorcycle in a garage or carport to protect it, there are things you can do to protect your boat, gazebo, and even your children’s wooden play-set or tree-house.
- Keep your boat covered - either under a heavy-gauge, form-fitting tarp or under a carport, and wax it as needed,
- Repaint or re-stain your gazebo and other outbuildings every two or three years with high-quality exterior coverings,
- Check for stability and ever-growing branches that can loosen a treehouse’s support and re-stain wooden play-sets yearly.

Flood Damage Needs Professional Attention for the Best Outcome in Cutler Bay Properties
Cutler Bay is an old area of Florida but a relatively new city. In 1880 the township got named after Dr. William Cutler of Massachusetts, who visited and decided to settle in the area, called "Cutler" and later "Cutler's Ridge." One of the most exciting features of the land is the nearby Palmetto Bay, where scientists discovered a large fossil site containing paleontological records of a host of animals, including:
- Mammoths
- Saber-toothed tigers
- California condors
Archeologists found strong evidence of a Native American tribe that no longer exists but thrived in the region over 10,000 years previously based on careful study of the Tequesta burial mounds and campsites. The earliest American settlers entered the area in 1825, but the township did not get founded until Dr. Cutler arrived. The area known as Cutler's Ridge continued to grow, assisted by the railroad coming through the community and small businesses opening in the town. All of that changed in 1992 when Hurricane Andrew made landfall near the city and nearly wiped the community off the map due to a combination of high winds, strong storm surge, and a slow-moving storm. One element worked in the town's favor, the tall vegetation in the underdeveloped areas that bordered the township assisted in lessening the flood damage from the initial storm surge. Still, it could not prevent the high winds from wrecking structures and foliage as the hurricane passed through. The area of Florida affected by Hurricane Andrew had estimated damage to the tune of $25 billion. The storm's low pressure with its slow pace dumped a massive amount of rain on the region, and the canals and drainage systems became overwhelmed, and extensive flooding occurred throughout.
The Town Opts For a New Name
The community decided to rebuild, and in April 2005, the Charter Committee for the town decided to rebrand the name and had a vote for the local citizens. The names that were chosen as possibles were "Pine Ridge," "Cutler Bay," "Cutler Ridge," and "Cutler." In November of the same year, the voters chose Cutler Bay as the final name for their town, and they also voted to incorporate making the city the county's 35th municipality. Initially, there was a certain amount of pushback from residents who did not like the name change and refused to use the new name.
Should Cutler Bay Property Owners Wait Until Floodwater Recedes Before Cleanup?
Once flood damage happens in a Cutler Bay residence, the restoration services should begin as rapidly as possible. The longer the water remains within the structure, the more damage it does. SERVPRO technicians have removal equipment that can work to remove water that is inches to feet in depth.
Controlled demolition is a standard action needed to halt further wicking of moisture into building materials. It is not unusual to see walls with portions removed, floorboards picked up, and tile removed. This is all to dry the subfloor and interior of the home quickly to avoid secondary issues such as:
- Mold spore germination and growth
- Musty odors
- Irreparable damage to the structure

Significant damage may arise when you have flooding within your Cutler Bay home after a recent storm. Will I Have to Worry About Exterior and Interior Wall Damage?
Any time you have flood damage in Cutler Bay, walls that come into contact with flood water might be compromised somehow. Our team includes skilled IICRC-certified technicians ready to use the latest water removal equipment, treatments to quell bacterial growth, and products inhibiting the onset of potentially harmful mold. Even though we have industrial-grade pumps and extraction tools, there might be a need for controlled demolition measures to remove any materials contaminated by floodwater.
We address walls in your home by doing the following:
- Interior walls – The interior walls may require flood cuts, which begin several inches over the waterline. Not only does this allow us to remove unsalvageable drywall, but it increased airflow and helps to gain access to any moisture or standing water inside.
- Exterior walls – All around your home where the water came in, we need to monitor and inspect exterior walls. We use moisture sensor technology to detect moisture pockets and tell us whether or not we must create drill holes for the water to drain out.
Our efforts will ensure your home gets restored to preloss condition, which is what sets SERVPRO of Cutler Bay apart from other companies in the area. When you need help with flood damage, give us a call 24/7 at (305) 278-8484.
Does Storm Surge Make Severe Storm Flood Damage Harder to Manage in Cutler Bay?
6/17/2020 (Permalink)
SERVPRO Crews Cruise to Your Cutler Bay Property to Mitigate Saltwater Intrusion from Flooding
Extensive Training for and Experience with Unique Coastal Risks During Storm-Related Consequences Make SERVPRO an Industry Leader
The high winds and torrential rains experienced during the tropical storm and hurricane season in Cutler Bay are concerning enough for area residents. When exposure to a significant storm surge is part of riding out the storm, you need help from a flooding restoration company that understands the ways substantial incursion of salty ocean water complicates and increases the severity of the damage. Familiarity with strategies that prevent long term damage from saltwater is essential.
What Is Storm Surge?
Because of our location on the coast, flood damage in Cutler Bay can include storm surge enhancement. The National Hurricane Center notes that storm surge is "often the greatest threat to life and property from a hurricane." The surge is a rush of water higher than the usual and predictable astronomical tide. Winds from intense storms, especially hurricanes, blow the abnormal quantity of water onshore. Coastal areas are most at risk, but higher category storms develop storm surges that can travel miles inland. Although improvements in weather forecasting mean storm surges are less likely to catch residents unaware, and physically in the path of the sometimes deadly surge, property damage continues to be of significant concern.
How Does the Damage from Salt Water Differ from the Damage from Fresh Water?
Although any flooding can cause destruction to your home, the SERVPRO team is on alert for increases in specific types of damage when saltwater is part of the mix. Why does saltwater have the potential to do more harm than rainwater and overland flooding?
How Does Salt Water Increase Electrical Safety Issues?
Higher amounts of salt increase water's conductivity, reminding us to be even more cautious if live electricity is a risk factor. The modern home also contains many items dependent upon electronics for operation. The high salt content increases the risk of permanent damage to the equipment and systems inside your house if not managed appropriately.
How Does Salt Water Impact Metal Building Materials?
Saltwater corrodes metal faster than fresh, threatening to weaken supports and fasteners. Staining and continual deterioration can result if not addressed.
How Does Salt Water Affect Wood and Wood-Products?
Lignin is a glue-like substance in wood and cellulose products that provides strength and support, especially to cell walls. Saltwater causes delignification, a breakdown of the lignin that eventually weakens wooden structural components. If you see a fuzzy deposit on wood exposed to saltwater, it is a sign that the lignin has degraded, and wooden structures have weakened. Storm surge flooding requires attention to this possibility.
How Does Salt Water Affect Concrete?
Over time concrete flooded with seawater deteriorates. Interestingly, concrete below the waterline in structures intended to support a building or construction such as a pier or bridge directly in seawater are less affected than structures inundated with saltwater for a short time. When non-submerged concrete dries, the compound crystallizes, and disruption of concrete aggregate occurs. Unique processes during flood water removal can lessen this issue.
What Are Additional Steps Needed During Recovery from Storm Surge Flooding in My Home?
The ions in saltwater conduct electricity more efficiently, so we observe extreme caution during storm surge removal. Power disconnection, until safety concerns are addressed during the removal process, must occur. Fortunately, our submersible pumps and truck-mounted extractors use gas or onboard generators, so no delay in flood water removal is necessary.
Inspection and Repair of Electronics
The many appliances and systems in your home operating through electronics need inspection and intervention by experts. Otherwise, these items may not work correctly or at all, and fire risks from shorts down the line are possible.
Flushing with Fresh Water
To decrease the salinity of the floodwater, freshwater pumped in help wash away the salt. This increases the amount of water we ultimately remove from your home. Our high-efficiency and large-capacity equipment are vital to completing this onerous task, especially if the process needs repeating if salt levels remain high.
Focus on the Soil Around Your Home
Overland flood damage always has the potential to shift the ground near your foundation, as a mechanical force. Storm surge also puts tremendous pressure on the land because of the power of the water. The salinity, however, exacerbates the erosion potential of seawater-related flood damage to the soil. Landscaping intended to beautify and improve the durability of the earth under and around your home often cannot thrive in highly-saline conditions.
Rely on SERVPRO of Cutler Bay to handle all aspects of coastal flooding in your residence after storm activity. We are on alert during the hurricane season, promptly responding 24/7 when you call (305) 278-8484.
How do Common Flooding Incidents Cause Water Damage in Cutler Bay?
6/9/2020 (Permalink)
Rapid-onset floods or flash floods occur very quickly, with little or no warning.
Certified SERVPRO Technicians Quickly Tackle Drying Out Your Cutler Bay Property After Flooding
Spring rains have begun, but temperatures around Cutler Bay are still comfortable enough for families to go to the beach or a certain, well-known amusement park for a long weekend. Homeowners still need to pay attention, though. It does not take a major storm or hurricane to flood their homes.
Flood damage to Cutler Bay homes, regardless of the storm's power, can destroy structural and personal property in less than a day. Our SERVPRO restoration teams train to go into each home to stop the flooding, remove any standing water, and then begin drying both structural and personal property as rapidly as possible without causing any secondary damage.
Technicians begin by securing the home against further water intrusion. Since this is storm-related, team members may need to sandbag low points to stop water in the neighborhood from seeping through doorways and low windows. Once the team leader believes the home is secure, they bring in commercial pumps and water extraction wands.
The commercial-grade pumps in our inventory can clear most homes in a day. Once the water is down to the surface of the floors and carpets, Technicians switch to the wands. These devices have a heating element in addition to the vacuum action, so our specialists can carefully begin drying carpets and wood floors as they remove the last of the water trapped in the nap of the carpet or underneath the floorboards.
As they remove the water, other SERVPRO specialists begin removing furniture and other items to a different part of the home and place it on pallets or blocks. It prevents leeching of the finish and color of wood and fabrics into the floodwater, which can stain and otherwise damage the carpets and floors.
If the water was standing for more than a few hours, some of it might have soaked into the walls. Although drywall is an excellent building material, it is fragile and disintegrates after absorbing too much moisture. Our technicians can often remediate the effects by placing air movers to blow warm, dry air across and even up the walls to dry them. To accelerate the process, they also set-up exhaust fans to improve air circulation and dehumidifiers to draw moisture from the air.
Common Cutler Bay Flooding Incidents
Believe it or not, flooding caused by leaky pipes, damaged fixtures, or broken appliances happens far more often than any natural disaster. With an increase in these types of emergencies, homeowners must prepare for floods, even in the regions that commonly avoid this kind of event.
After checking with your insurance company to ensure you have the proper coverage, make sure that you contact a qualified restoration company specializing in flood damage for help with preparing your Cutler Bay water damaged home. Even if you have never had water issues in the past, it is best to get the protection you deserve, before you need it. SERVPRO technicians understand how floodwaters behave and help you protect areas of your property where flooding is most likely to occur. The speed and duration of a flood can vary significantly, making it necessary to protect yourself in various ways.
Slow, constant rainwater, pipes with a small leak, and damaged plumbing fixtures all can turn into what we call a slow-onset flood—sometimes taking over a week to develop and lasting for months before the water ever goes away on its own.
Rapid-onset floods or flash floods occur very quickly, with little or no warning. Broken appliances, drain pipes, or plumbing lines with large holes fall into this category. Improper drainage, settling, ice jams, and faulty water systems often lead to flooded basements and other issues that you may have already experienced.
SERVPRO has services available to get flood damage under control fast. We use expertly trained technicians, specialized equipment, and years of experience to address issues found on your property. Remember, even a few inches of floodwater can cause extreme damage to your home if not handled in an efficient, timely manner.
When water loss incidents such as these happen on your property, get to safety, call for help, and wait for SERVPRO'S expertly trained technicians to arrive, before re-entering your home. You never know if hazards are lurking just around the next corner, never take the chance. Contact SERVPRO of Cutler Bay for professional assistance when dealing with flood damage found on your property (305) 278-8484.

Thorough Water Damage Restoration in Your Cutler Bay Home Can Prevent Further Damage
Storm Flood Damage Cutler Bay
While the construction of your home is designed to withstand the elements, there are outer limits to what any structure can handle. Storms can whip up winds of over 100 kilometers per hour (KPH) alongside heavy rain and hail. In these adverse conditions, your home may struggle to maintain structural integrity with a high possibility of broken windows, doors, and roof tiling. In extreme conditions, like hurricanes, flying debris can pose a real threat.
Once your home's integrity is compromised, there is a strong likelihood of storm flood damage entering your Cutler Bay home. These rough weather conditions may cause malfunctions in your plumbing or guttering, all of which can result in flooding of the upper levels. Beneath the home, sustaining rainfall can cause a groundwater emergency, which floods the lower levels. Flooding situations can arise quickly, which is why it is vital to take immediate action against large bodies of water in the home.
We operate systematic removal and drying procedures for homeowners in need of emergency assistance. Our reputation at SERVPRO is built on providing reliable, professional assistance to private residents and large commercial clients during an emergency. There are many judgment calls to be made in the immediate aftermath of a flood. Our team focuses on finding salvageable materials in the home and giving them the attention they need. At the same time, we act quickly to remove non-salvageable materials, keeping the restoration service efficient.
At SERVPRO, we have access to many resources, including storage space, that can be invaluable to the community in an emergency. We are also fully qualified in drying properties so that they do not sustain secondary or permanent damages. Our LRG dehumidifiers can help to lower the humidity in your home rapidly, which is invaluable in preventing structural rot or fungi growth. Portable heating units can help to raise the indoor air temperature to speed up the evaporation process drying your home correctly and thoroughly.
Flooding scenarios are always a challenge, but our resources, expertise, and equipment can help your home make a full recovery. Contact SERVPRO of Cutler Bay at (305) 278-8484.

How Water Vapor Is a Lingering Threat to Flood Damaged Homes in Cutler Bay
12/3/2019 (Permalink)
Water vapor is an invisible threat to your home. We have the expertise to remove the vapor and dry your home.
Why SERVPRO Monitors Water Vapor in Houses with Flood Damage in Cutler Bay
Already heavily saturated ground in the Cutler Bay area means additional precipitation must runoff to lower ground. Areas of land where depressions or vast expanses of level ground occur can let water can pool and cause harm to any residential properties in the area. While significant flooding is most often on people's minds, minor flooding can also cause significant property damage.
Water vapor's dramatic increase during and after flooding in Cutler Bay is why SERVPRO uses it to monitor flood damage mitigation work. While warmer air can more easily hold more massive amounts of water than the same amount of colder air can contain, the presence of moisture tends to lower the temperature. The role each plays with the other affects how efficient our efforts are at cleaning up flood damage.
Knowing how much moisture the air contains, along with how much moisture content is in the wooden components and other materials in a flooded home, informs us of the need for additional equipment. Using another air mover, desiccant machine, or heater can make an enormous difference in the amount of damage a residence sustains.
When the temperatures drops inside a structure, the amount of air does not change much. However, the amount of water vapor causes the temperature air can maintain to decrease. This decrease means the rate of evaporation slows down. When it slows down, materials like wooden framework dry out more slowly.
Staying damp longer provides microbes longer to multiply. It also causes wood to warp more, and this can also lead to splitting or cracking. Split or cracked wood loses a significant amount of strength. If too many beams weaken, it can cause structural problems in the house. An additional heating source can prevent this from causing problems and slowing down our progress.
When the temperature is high enough that the air should remain nearly saturated, drying takes place swiftly. However, if our devices detect that materials like wooden door frames continue to retain copious amounts of moisture, we must increase the amount of air movement in the house. We can often do this by changing the setting on the air movers already present or by adding another one.
Adding another desiccant machine also assists us in ridding the air of its moisture at a steady pace. Other measures, including venting the air to the outside, help immensely. When outdoor air is as damp or damper than the air inside, we often use tubing to force air directly outside without leaving any more space on the window open.
SERVPRO of Cutler Bay also wants to eliminate any delays your family experiences in returning home after a flood. Damaged homes displace homeowners, so we work diligently to reduce the amount of time you and your family face after a flood. Call (305) 278-8484 for fast service and swift restoration of your Franjo, Three Lakes, and Palmetto Bay residence.

Our Specialists Discuss What To Do After A Flood In Your Cutler Bay Home
7/23/2019 (Permalink)
If your home endures flood damage, never hesitate.
What SERVPRO Of Cutler Bay Recommends You Do When Your Home Suffers Flood Damage
Your home can endure flood damage from many sources, such as heavy rains and winds caused by foul weather. However, not every instance of flood damage is catastrophic. In many cases, home-based damages can be relatively mild, and they may only need a little bit of expert advice to remediate successfully.
In the case of your Cutler Bay home, the flood damage was caused by the waters of a thunderstorm. A broken window in the entryway of your home allowed water to pool into the foyer, just before the stairs leading into the upper level of your split-level home. Fortunately for you, the storm ended up leaving behind what amounts to a puddle inside of your foyer, making you capable of doing the job yourself, if you wish.
When it comes to living in Florida, flood damage is always a glaring possibility. For this reason, we here at SERVPRO think it is important to know the basics of what to do if your property experiences a minor amount of flood damage. The first thing our technicians would focus on is removing the water from your home as soon as possible.
One of the swiftest ways to remove standing water is to use a wet/dry vacuum. Wet/dry vacuums make removing water from your home a simple task and are much more likely to leave behind minimal excess, unlike trying to use towels to soak up the moisture. Once the majority of the excess is gone, you can focus on trying to ensure that the wooden floor in your entryway is dry. A SERVPRO technician might use devices to aid them, such as:
• Dehumidifiers
• Space Heaters
• Axial Fans
• Flood Drying Mats
While not all of these devices are available to the average person, space heaters and fans are easy to come by in many stores.
Keep in mind, doing this job yourself does present some risks. Here at SERVPRO, we always recommend for you to call for professional help during a water-loss. When it comes to the risk of microbial growth in your home, it is always better to be safe rather than sorry. However, if calling for help isn't an option, always remember to be a thorough as possible and to get help immediately if mold damage becomes apparent.
If your home endures flood damage, never hesitate. Dial (305) 278-8484 to speak with SERVPRO of Cutler Bay. We are available whenever you need us.

We Can Prevent Long Term Issues After A Flood In Your Cutler Bay Home

After flooding affects your home, you can call SERVPRO to help with restoration and identification of issues likely to cause problems in the future.
Preventing Long Term Problems After Flood Damage In Cutler Bay
When a flooding incident affects your home in Cutler Bay, it can leave other problems that continue affecting you long after you finish cleaning. Taking proper actions during the restoration process can help protect you from long-term issues. We offer professional restoration of flood damage that can help you overcome the challenges.
Cleaning up soiling and debris is essential when dealing with flood damage in Cutler Bay. Floods mostly involve black water loss because the water flows over large swathes of land collecting different contaminants. It is, therefore, a useful idea to remove any porous materials affected by the incident because of the risk of long-term contamination. Our SERVPRO technicians remove carpet and pad for disposal. We also treat non-porous materials on the floor and walls with EPA-registered disinfectants neutralize contaminants.
The wetness from the floodwaters can easily spark mold infestation in your property. Removing the water from affected rooms is easy. However, some of the moisture can remain trapped in concealed areas such as wall cavities, subfloors, and crawl spaces. Eliminating such moisture protects you from the tough and at times expensive undertaking of removing mold later. Our SERVPRO technicians use various moisture detection tools to check for moisture in materials and concealed spaces. We use FLIR thermal cameras to check for wet areas behind walls or other concealed areas. We also use moisture meters to check moisture levels in materials. We then use various drying equipment including LGR dehumidifiers, which allow us to reduce humidity to lower levels compared to using conventional refrigerant dehumidifiers.
Flooding can interfere with the energy efficiency of your home by affecting the R-value of the insulation. Wetness also causes some types of insulation such as Rockwool to matt thus rendering them useless. Our SERVPRO technicians open up walls to replace the wet insulation thus keeping your home energy efficient.
After flooding affects your home in Cutler Ridge, Franjo, and Three Lakes, you can call SERVPRO of Cutler Bay to help with restoration and identification of issues likely to cause problems in the future. You can reach us at (305) 278-8484 any time.

Avoiding Secondary Issues From Flood Damage In Cutler Bay
Flood damage in a home is one of the most stressful situations a homeowner can face. When we get the call to remediate water loss in a home, it is crucial to act quickly to dry the house and contents to prevent secondary damages.
When handling flood damage in Cutler Bay homes, SERVPRO technicians know that this situation needs to be handled quickly but also with compassion. Saturated items are moved out of the house with the homeowner's approval, and any remaining standing water is extracted using portable pumps for smaller jobs and truck mounted pumps for large-scale water removal when needed.
The process of drying a home is more than setting up fans and hoping for the best. Our technicians set up air movers at specific angles unique to the property to move moist air up and out in the most efficient manner. If drywall has become saturated, SERVPRO uses moisture probes to determine how far into the drywall moisture has penetrated. Weep holes or sections are cut away as needed to allow for the air to reach behind the drywall.
Dehumidifiers lower moisture in the air and in some cases our technicians use heaters to get rid of excess moisture in building materials and restorable home contents during the drying phase of restoration. This is a critical step in ensuring there are no damp areas that harbor mold.
Mold spores can set up home in damp conditions as quickly as 24-48 hours after a water loss incident in a home. SERVPRO technicians use proprietary formulated cleaners that eradicate both mold and bacteria to wipe down non-porous surfaces affected by water. Technicians know porous items that have been saturated need to be handled on a case by case basis, and we do not remove any unrestorable items without homeowner approval.
SERVPRO of Cutler Bay is staffed by certified remediation specialists who have the experience and tools to handle flood damage to your home. SERVPRO's emergency services are available 24/7 by calling (305) 278-8484.

Our SERVPRO of Cutler Bay Team Travels to North Carolina After Hurricane Florence

In the Hurricane Florence aftermath, SERVPRO of Cutler Bay Responds to the U.S.S. North Carolina Battleship Welcome Center Recovery.
SERVPRO assisting with the U.S.S. North Carolina Battleship Welcome Center recovery after Hurricane Florence
Even with all of the precautionary measures and warnings for North Carolina residents as Hurricane Florence approached, many people could not adequately prepare for the devastation that this storm brought to the coastline. Record-breaking flooding and widespread destruction followed winds more than 100 MPH and torrential rainfall that quickly brought rivers, streams and other bodies of water well beyond their capacities.
One of the North Carolina commercial properties that experienced its fair share of this destructive force moving in from the Atlantic was the welcome center for the docked U.S.S. North Carolina battleship. When the roof became severely damaged by the high winds, high volumes of water could penetrate into the building and flooded the large center entirely. Fortunately for this commercial property, our National Recovery team was already gearing up to make the trip North to the Carolinas to offer disaster relief and recovery efforts to this ravaged region.
Our SERVPRO franchise is one of only a handful in the country that has the means and capacity to dispatch a large team of our trained professionals to help those in need throughout the country when massive natural disasters like Hurricane Florence hit. Our team arrived amid the chaos, moving the necessary equipment and technicians to the welcome center for the battleship via a boat.
While our crews are still working to restore this building to its original conditions, our loyalties always lie with the community that we serve here in Florida. Give our experienced SERVPRO of Cutler Bay emergency response team a call anytime that your home or business falls victim to an unexpected disaster. You can reach us 24/7 by calling (305) 278-8484.

Avoid Mold When Floodwaters Enter Your Hollywood Home by Being Prepared
9/22/2018 (Permalink)
Floodwaters can quickly invade your home. Contact SERVPRO immediately if your home is affected by a storm.
Preparedness Could Help Limit Flood Damage in your Hollywood Home
When they happen, floods can engulf your property with water fast causing significant damages to the structure and the contents within. If you can remove the water quickly enough, you can reduce the damage extent. Apart from the restoration steps you take once your Hollywood property floods, you can also take precautionary steps to protect it before such an event happens. Preparedness can improve the chances of saving your property significantly.
To prevent flood damage in your Hollywood home, you should take measures that prevent entry of water into your property. Even a water intrusion one inch deep can cause significant harm, so your efforts should focus on elevating the structure, or the contents that are likely to be damaged by floodwaters. When our SERVPRO technicians inspect your home, we can give you advice on the steps that you can take to achieve this.
Electrical and climate systems are usually damaged severely when a property floods. Things like switches, circuit breakers, sockets should be above the expected flood level. You should also modify anchored indoor equipment such as water heaters and furnaces so that they sit above the flood level. Our SERVPRO technicians can help you establish the correct level to raise these items based on FEMA flood maps and our prior experiences.
Sewer backup is one of the aspects that cause the most destruction when there is a flood because of the extra contamination risks it poses. You can prevent such backup by installing backflow valves. For the best protection, you should install an interior and exterior valve.
Proper maintenance of gutters, downspouts, and drains is also necessary because they might cause rainwater to pool around your house and eventually flood it. Sometimes it is necessary to wet- proof your home. This procedure involves installing foundation vents that allow water to pass through the building instead of rising and pooling inside.

Keep Insurance in Mind for Flood Damage in Miami
8/12/2018 (Permalink)
Flooding and storms can cause a great deal of damage to your home. Contact SERVPRO right after the event for drying out and remediation services.
Team SERVPRO can Work with Your Insurance Company to Remediate Your Home After Flooding
One of the most important considerations to keep in mind after flood damage in Miami is your insurance information and policies. Depending on your provider, plan, and specific types of coverage, you could have full coverage and more for any damages sustained in the storm, or could also receive next to nothing. SERVPRO representatives can help to negotiate favorable terms with insurance adjusters and drive costs down, but some of your actions can also prove critical to keeping flood-related expenses to a minimum.
Call Your Provider Immediately
If you have not already done so, you should call your insurance provider as soon as possible after sustaining flood damage to your Miami home. Some providers have specific plans and policies in place that can both help you if they are notified promptly and prove harmful if you delay a call to them. Many companies also have preferences and recommendations as to what mitigation and restoration services you should employ. While SERVPRO tops most reputable providers' lists, you should never assume anything about what your insurance provider may tell you.
Make Sure Your Plan Covers the Damages
While some homeowners' insurance policies cover the effects of flood damage in part or in full, others may offer flood damage coverage exclusively in separate or bundled packages. If you are unsure of whether or not your home is covered by flood insurance, you need to find this critical information out without delay. Furthermore, if you do know that your home is covered, you should also inquire whether the coverage is partial or full.
Provide Us with Inventory Information
If you have a current item inventory available, or even an outdated list, be sure to provide SERVPRO with this document early on in our mitigation and restoration process. With a full item inventory on hand, we can compare your belongings before and after the disaster to more closely estimate how much you have lost. We relay this information directly to your insurance provider to keep paperwork and legal issues for you to a minimum.
SERVPRO of Cutler Bay is a local authority on flood damage mitigation and restoration procedures. If you have any additional inquiries or require our services for any reason, contact us at (305) 278-8484.

Water and Moisture Removal Are Key to Miami Storm Damage Mitigation--Ask SERVPRO for Help
SERVPRO Moves Fast After You Call Us for Storm Damage Cleanup and Restoration
As most Miami homeowners know, the weather is anything but predictable and accommodating all throughout the year. With certain severe weather systems always threatening to hit the coastline, the area is nearly in an ever-present risk of situations like flooding and flash flooding. Fortunately, many of the homes here have gotten constructed to reduce the damage that these disasters can cause by working to prevent the water from getting inside your house. The trouble with this is that you might not realize that these lines of defense have degraded or failed until the damage has already happened.
When it comes to discovering flood damages in your Miami residence, your fast reaction time can save you much trouble in the long run. Instead of working to try and remove these damages and present water on your own, you should be reaching out to the professionals at SERVPRO. Our rapid response team can arrive quickly and get to work on both removing the water pouring into your house and preserving the contents of your home that could be at risk for irreparable damages.
When our team arrives at your home, one of the first priorities we have is to quell the source of the water flow to keep the situation from getting any worse. Often something as simple as applying some hydraulic cement to compromised blockwork can reduce (or even remove) the threat of more water damage from steady flow.
In many cases where flooding occurs in areas where drywall has gotten installed, flood cuts are necessary. This process involves removing several inches of the bottom of the drywall up to several feet where it has gotten too damaged to save, but it also provides benefits to the restoration process as well. With these portions removed, our SERVPRO professionals can gain access to wall cavities to ensure that the area is sufficiently dry before we deem the job complete.
While this is just a small look at restoration work in light of a flood in your home, it can help to show you the level of dedication you can expect from the specialists here at SERVPRO of Cutler Bay. Give us a call 24/7 at (305) 278-8484.

SERVPRO - Removing Flood Damage In Hollywood, Florida
4/26/2018 (Permalink)
The team at SERVPRO of Cutler Bay is here to help when flood damage strikes.
Restoring Your Hollywood Home From Water Damage is SERVPRO's Number One Priority
Our Hollywood, Florida homes are not exactly in the hills, but we prefer North Ocean Drive to the Pacific Coast Highway any day. The drawback, of course, is all that water that tries its best to get inside several times a year.
Flood damage in Hollywood needs a quick response to keep it from having long-term effects. That is why SERVPRO offices maintain a rapid response team seven days a week, including all holidays.
Once the team arrives on-site, their first task is ensuring a safe environment. If the floodwater shorted out the power, they make certain it remains off and post warnings for residents, contractors or other visitors. As they do this, other team members bring in a portable generator to provide uninterrupted electrical power.
The team handles the next two tasks simultaneously. As several team members remove furniture, appliances, and other items that can leave stains on carpets or floors, equipment technicians begin removing any standing water using commercial grade pumps and extraction wands. The pumps can remove the majority of the water, while the wands draw water out of carpets and from between the individual sections of the wood flooring.
The wands are very good for drawing out water, but they do not completely dry the carpets. Once technicians remove the heavy weight of the water, they lift the carpet and roll it out of the way. If there is a pad underneath it, the team disposes of it. Pads fall apart after absorbing a large amount of water, and they are far cheaper to replace than restore. Team members then use long-handled squeegees to push out any remaining moisture.
Now, we examine the carpet. To dry out the last trace of moisture and prevent the carpet layers from separating, SERVPRO technicians use air movers to force warm, dry air over the carpet surface while exhaust fans draw out the trapped, damp air. Once they finish, team members stretch the carpet back in place. If the floodwater was contaminated, the team removes and disposes of the carpet as attempting to clean it is usually more expensive than replacing it.

Issues Secondary To Hurricane Damage In Cutler Bay

Cutler Bay and Hurricane Irma Get Help from the EPA and SERVPRO
Cutler Bay Can Experience Hurricane Irma Unforeseen Damages
Residents of Cutler Bay may have escaped significant structural damage during this year’s hurricane season, but problems affecting your home still arise when the area’s infrastructure takes a hit. Extended periods with no power cause damage you may not foresee. Our restoration crews help with all types of secondary harm.
Hurricane damage in Cutler Bay takes time to manifest when due to electrical outages. You risk structural and contents damage if you try to ride out the days to a week or more without a plan for adequate alternative power. A generator that does not provide enough wattage to keep your food storage appliances and climate control systems running may leave you in a difficult situation. We have strategies to ease your burden.
Food stored in a freezer or refrigerator that cannot keep it consistently cold enough threatens the health and safety of your family. You planned to have a generous cache of nourishment to get you through the post-hurricane time, but instead, find you must deal with hundreds of pounds of spoiled food. SERVPRO has experience with this type of cleanup on both commercial and residential scales.
Exacerbating the circumstances may be the failure of your AC and dehumidifier components to keep ambient moisture at or below recommended levels, 30 to 50 percent, in the wet, humid aftermath of the hurricane. Mold needs less than 48 hours to absorb moisture and begin growing on any available surface. Humidity levels of over 60 percent offer enough moisture to support mold growth without any water incursions. The food rotting in your refrigerator or freezer provides more than ample nourishment for significant growth of mold colonies. Indeed, spoiled food by definition is contaminated with microbial growth.
SERVPRO trains technicians in the cleaning industry’s best practices when responding to large quantities of moldy food, personal belongings, and building materials. We follow the lead of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) protocols and local health codes to contain and remove mold and the items infested by the quickly multiplying microbial colonies. Our crews protect non-affected areas of your home through the use of negative pressure air scrubbers during the cleaning and removal. Antimicrobial products sanitize the surfaces where spoiled food and mold overgrowth were found. Disposal of the contaminated items is completed as prescribed by law.
If relief is replaced by panic when your home survives the hurricane only to suffer from the aftermath, call SERVPRO of Cutler Bay at (305) 278-8484. Our experienced teams of mold remediators and biohazard cleanup technicians have the answer.

Why Flood Damage from Flood Waters in Palmetto Bay is Dangerous
10/14/2017 (Permalink)
Rely on SERVPRO if you experience a flood damage emergency.
SERVPRO’s First Priority During a Flash Flood is Safety
Storms, hurricanes, floods, and tornadoes have one thing in common: they can cause significant flood damage to your home. Flood waters are ruthless and can come without warning. In some cases, you may not be able to protect yourself from the resultant losses, even after foreseeing the calamity. The best way to protect yourself is taking precautionary measures beforehand, like insuring your home and having a reputable restoration company in your phone book.
Over the last few decades, SERVPRO has been providing flood damage restoration services to different places in the country, including Palmetto Bay. Our technicians are highly skilled and highly experienced, certified by the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC). We have a wide range of equipment for dealing with all sorts of emergencies, and we are strategically located to respond quickly to your situation.
The worst part of flood damage occurs primarily from the mere force of flowing water. Six inches of flood water can knock you off your feet, while two feet of water is forceful enough to sweep a car away. This impact can seem surprising, considering that you can easily swim in the ocean without much trouble, and that is a lot of moving water. Even a flowing river is not strong enough to knock someone over.
Flood waters are dangerous because they tend to apply a lot more pressure than a calm sea or an ordinary river. SERVPRO technicians often have to relocate most of the items in the house to avoid further damage. The main reason behind the massive pressure is the large differences in water volume during many floods. During a flood, much water may accumulate in one area while another area is almost dry. Since water is relatively heavy, it moves quickly to acquire its own level. The force of movement is directly proportional to the difference between water volumes across a region. At a certain point, the water may not look so deep or even dangerous -- until it is too late.
Flash floods cause the most devastating flood damage, as they occur from a sudden, intense buildup of water. They hit an area immediately after the water starts to accumulate, so you may not see them coming most of the time. In this case, the first priority for SERVPRO emergency responders is safety. Since flash floods involve a significant amount of water accumulating in one area, they can move with a great deal of force, knocking over anything in their path. The damage is more intense when a strong thunderstorm causes a heavy downpour on a mountain, which then cascades down at a tremendous speed.
If you have a flood damage emergency in your area, you can count on SERVPRO of Cutler Bay to restore your property. We are a trusted leader in the restoration industry and have the expertise to handle all your restoration needs. Call us anytime on (305) 278-8484.

The area goes from drought warnings to a month’s worth of rain in just a few days, causing local property owners to struggle. SERVPRO comes to the rescue, equipment and trained technicians on alert.

You require a restoration company that understands the unique set of circumstances in the Miami suburbs. We are both locally and independently owned and operated, ready to help our community with water woes no company handles better than we do.
Even if you prepared for the typical start to hurricane season, the rains since early June are surprising. SERVPRO crews help you regain your equilibrium, extracting water and positioning drying equipment in areas of your home you thought were protected. Our team arrives with a fresh perspective, certain of techniques and tools that manage unexpectedly high water.
SERVPRO clears water from the spaces in your home but also has specialized knowledge in the drying of pictures, documents, electronics, and heirlooms. You may have left these items in vulnerable areas of your house because this year’s level of flooding exceeded your expectations.
Our technicians receive training not only in restoration techniques but also in creating a practical inventory of your flood damaged personal belongings as you decide how much to invest in restoring various classes of household contents. Damage to papers and pictures respond best to a particular procedure that is available only from certified technicians. Freeze drying via sublimation is also known as lyophilization, and removes water vapor from papers without allowing the vapor to pass back through the liquid state. The process is costly but successful in retaining the essence of many irreplaceable documents.
The full-service approach offered by SERVPRO means a flood-stricken homeowner has just one restoration partner rather than needing to find separate assistance for different kinds of loss. We also work with your household insurer very closely throughout the restoration process, ensuring your out of pocket losses are at the bare minimum.
If this year’s rains caught you not entirely ready, SERVPRO of Cutler Bay has the crews and tools to get you back to baseline. Call us at (305) 278-8484 to arrange for an experienced work crew to bring things back to normal.

Beware Of The Dangers Caused By Flood Damage In Cutler Bay Properties
5/17/2017 (Permalink)
When a home gets hit by serious flooding, whether it is a natural or domestic source, the priority is the safety of the occupants.
Dangers Caused By Flood Damage
When a home gets hit by serious flooding, whether it is a natural or domestic source, the priority is the safety of the occupants. If the situation is risky or poses any danger to yourself or others, you must leave the building. Anytime that there is excess water around, the biggest hazard is electrical systems.
The first thing that SERVPRO does is locate the breakers or switches and shut off the power. If there is no standing water, this might not be necessary. However, extensive flooding may reach the height of power sockets and other components. Unfortunately, it is not the only hazard when repairing flood damage in Cutler Bay properties. If you are dealing with serious flooding and you need emergency assistance, you can use the SERVPRO mobile app to get in touch with the team. We arrive on site within the hour.
Fireplaces
Fireplaces can be a tricky thing to restore after flooding. They either contain a lot of electrical components, or they depend upon the health of a chimney, which is hard to access. Sometimes, extreme weather leads to blocks in the chimney, and they allow carbon monoxide to build up inside the room.
It is very dangerous so you should always have a detector in your home. If your chimney becomes clogged, we can arrange for a contractor to come out and clean it. When mixed with water, some types of soot become oily and leave stains. We use polycyclic aromatic compounds to dissolve stubborn blemishes on walls and hard floors.
HVAC System
The HVAC system is always inspected for damage after a flood because it is susceptible to humidity. If moisture builds up on the inside surfaces, it may generate mold growth. You do not want this to happen, as your HVAC ducts are circulating air around the house. If that air contains mold spores, they move around the home too.
The exact method of cleaning depends on the style, arrangement, and size of the HVAC system. We use a combination of axial fans, compact dehumidifiers, and HEPA vacuums to remove dirt, draw out excess moisture, and drive impurities and potential mold spores out of the ducts. If parts of the insulation get wet, we remove and replace them.
With our mobile app, you are never far away from a qualified flood damage repair team. SERVPRO of Cutler Bay is always available to homeowners in the region, and we provide a broad range of repair and restoration services. Call us 24/7 at (305) 278-8484 today.

How SERVPRO Helps Around The Home During A Flood In Cutler Bay

Floods are catastrophic and costly events that can give a home permanent scars if damages are not dealt with properly.
Flood Damage
Floods are catastrophic and costly events that can give a home permanent scars if damages are not dealt with properly. Whether it is a storm-caused flood or one that originates from inside the home, floods are expensive because they reach and damage a wide variety of surfaces and objects in an affected home. Floods can soak floors, stain walls, destroy objects and materials, and destroy anything in their path. SERVPRO carries a broad array of certifications and treatment techniques to tackle all the issues of a flood at once, with as few additional contractors as possible.
Floors
Flooring of all kinds is often among the most heavily damaged parts of a flood damaged home in Cutler Bay. Floodwaters soak into carpeting, wood, tile, laminate, and even concrete with the assistance of gravity, causing heavy damage even if SERVPRO extractors are used within hours of the flood. We use specialized drying equipment to minimize damage to floors, and a diverse set of complex treatments to help avoid replacement wherever possible.
Walls
Walls can stain, soak, and be physically damaged during a flood. Although damage here may seem lighter than on the floor, similar amounts of work and time are often required to fully reverse any damages that occur. Surfaces with wallpaper, inexpensive paints, or delicate finishes are at the most risk of harm beyond simple staining. We provide cleaning and drying services, along with minor construction and replacement work if need be.
Furniture
Furniture is tricky to deal with in a flood, as many furniture pieces and sets have unique requirements for proper cleanup and drying. For drying, we usually apply air drying techniques similar to those used elsewhere in the home. For cleaning, we have a much more careful set of treatments, often employing specialty foam brushes and cleaning tools to make sure the furniture incurs no additional damage.
Basements
Basements are among the most at-risk places in a home for damage during a flood. It is very rare for a flood not to reach the basement somehow. When it does, the damage is often similar to that seen in the rest of the home, but on a bigger scale. Our heavy-duty equipment helps deal with these severe scenarios and keep basements as dry as possible in the wake of damage.
SERVPRO of Cutler Bay is a local home damage restoration and remediation company with a diverse set of certifications and equipment to handle any disaster thrown your way by a flood. Call us at (305) 278-8484 to find out how we can help.
Tornadoes: Violent Storms
10/4/2016 (Permalink)
Tornado damage can be devastating. Stay safe and then call SERVPRO to remediate!
SERVPRO Technicians are Certified in Storm Damage Remediation
One of the world’s most violent and devastating events of weather, tornadoes can make the strongest winds found on earth, nearing three hundred miles per hour. Tornadoes might last only a few seconds or can move miles over land for hours at a time. They can happen just about anywhere in the world, though their seeds and power will greatly vary with location. More than one tornado could add power to land falling hurricanes.
Tornadoes can also be referred to as whirlwinds, twisters or waterspouts when they are over water. When a warm wind collides with a cold wind, they begin to move around each other, which makes a spinning vortex. Then a corkscrew-like funnel will come down from the bottom of storm clouds and can go down all the way to the ground. The pressure at the center of the vortex is a few hundred millibars under the pressure outside. The wind that is spinning creates a huge vacuum which sucks up trees, loose objects, animals and even people. The path of a tornado can be very selective, destroying homes right in its path, while neighboring homes are left untouched. Even though they are usually under 250 meters wide, their path is destructive and can create storm damage a mile wide for more than fifty miles.
Famous for the amount of tornadoes it has each year, the United States can have as many as one thousand. Several dozen are labeled as violent or strong, meaning they have gotten up to two hundred miles per hour. Even though tornadoes can happen anywhere, there are particular regions which are more prone to them happening. In the mid-west of the U.S., close to Oklahoma City, there is an area referred to as Tornado Alley since it has more tornadoes than anywhere else. 148 tornadoes in 1974 were sighted in only 24 hours throughout America’s mid-west and south. Even with this, it is the United Kingdom which experiences the most actual tornadoes by land, even though a majority of these are quite weak.
There are even some people who are fascinated by tornadoes, following them and watching how they develop. They are referred to as Storm Chasers and have let us learn more about where and how tornadoes form, and the type of damages they can cause. Storm chasing is however quite dangerous, but some of the best film and pictures of tornadoes have been recorded by these chasers.
Since meteorological apparatus is generally destroyed by tornadoes’ intense winds, knowledge of these storms is limited. Tornadoes are measured by something called a Fujita scale, which is based upon wind speed, however, more usually the levels of damage.
If you’ve experienced a tornado in your area, your home has likely sustained damages. This is when it is time to call our professional technicians at SERVPRO of Cutler Bay, who can come out quickly to your property to assess damages and being a plan for remediation. Call (305) 278-8484.
What to Avoid After Flood Damage

SERVPRO of Cutler Bay is ready to help you with your flood damage emergency!
How and What to Avoid After Flood Damage Strikes
Flood damage typically leaves homes upturned, out of order, and a mess to even the trained eye. In addition to destroyed objects and obvious hazards, there can be many unseen, undetectable hazards in a home following a flood. Many homeowners hurt themselves or their family by being too careless in the aftermath of a flood, and knowing what is off-limits could save your life. Here are some objects and places to avoid following any flood damage.
Basements
A basement is usually the most heavily damaged room in a home recently hit by flood damage in Palmetto Bay. Water naturally seeks out the lowest point in an area; in your home, this is going to be the basement. Basements can pool up water and are often cut off from sunlight, creating perfect conditions for the breeding of harmful bacteria and viruses, and also mold. To be safe, avoid the basement unless otherwise directed by one of our technicians or representatives.
Furniture
Furniture should not be used following a flood, although drying it out may be a good idea. SERVPRO suggests to separate pillows and cushions from the bodies and try to place a layer of material between furniture legs and the floor. However, using furniture is typically a bad idea, for both comfort and your safety.
Heavily Damaged Areas
After violent floods, an area of your home may exhibit signs of heavy damage. Such areas commonly contain broken glass and ceramics, hazardous materials, bits of metal, and overall contain physical dangers to your health. If an area is obviously heavily damaged, let our trained technicians handle it, and save the dirty work for those who have handled it before.
Locally Owned Company with National Resources
SERVPRO of Cutler Bay brings expertise, solid training, and 24/7 fast response to the local community, and is prepared to deal with any flooding disaster or emergency. Cleaning up After Flood Damage in Palmetto Bay
5/11/2016 (Permalink)
When flooding happens and you experience flood damaged of your Palmetto Bay Home , the water is capable of wreaking havoc on your house’s structure.
Cleaning up After Palmetto Bay Flood Damage
When your home floods and you experience flood damage, the water is capable of wreaking havoc on your house’s structure. It can also destroy personal belongings and damage the health of the environment inside your home. A lot of contaminants can be found in flood waters, plus plenty of mud. Expensive items can get ruined, even with just an inch of water, such as wallboard, carpeting, furniture, and appliances. A storm that is more severe or a flood which is deeper can add water damage to systems which are more expensive such as the air conditioner and heater, ducts, private sewage, roofing, utilities, well systems and the foundation of the home. Cleanup is a long and complicated process after a flood. The following are areas of your home where flood damage can cause severe damage:
Electrical System – Ensure that your electrical system is turned off right away. It will need to be inspected and repaired by a professional electrician before you can turn it back on. The wiring has to be totally dried out, even behind the walls. Convenience outlets, switches, the entrance panel, light outlets and junction boxes which have been under water could have mud in them.
Basement – If water has entered the basement and it is full or almost full, let our professionals handle it. You do not want to attempt to extract the water yourself. If you drain this area too fast, the pressure on the outside of the walls will be more than the pressure inside the walls. This can make the floor and walls crack and collapse. This is why hiring a professional restoration company is your only solution.
Private Sewage Systems – If a sewage system has flooded, it can be a very hazardous situation. It can lead to a back-up of sewage in your home, a lack of sanitation, and contaminated drinking water until it is fixed. When saturated soil or flooding conditions continue, a private sewage system can’t properly work. These systems require aerobic regions to lower the levels of chemicals and living organisms, so when the soil is flooded or saturated, these hazardous materials can get into groundwater and your drinking water.
Walls and Ceilings – Wallboard acts as a sponge and will need to be removed. If it has been contaminated by floodwater, it can be a permanent health hazard and needs to be replaced. Paneling and plaster can many times be saved, but we must circulate air into the wall cavities to dry the sills and studs to prevent mold. All insulation has different treatments. Styrofoam could just need to be hosed off, while fiberglass batts should be tossed out if they are muddy, but can be reused if thoroughly dried. Blown-in or loose cellulose needs to be replaced because if it holds water too long, it can lose its fire retardant and antifungal abilities.
Flooring – When you have wood sub flooring, the covering such as carpet, vinyl or linoleum, will need to be removed so that the sub flooring can thoroughly dry out, which could take several months.
For expert help, contact SERVPRO of Cutler Bay by calling them anytime at (305) 278-8484. They will have the experience and equipment to dry your home out as fast as possible.

Contact SERVPRO to Take Care of Flood Damage in Miami
When your home suffers from flood damagei, calling the experts as soon as possible can help minimize the appearance of long-term damage. To expedite the cleaning process and make sure that no details are left unattended, it is strongly recommended for you to perform a quick inspection of the flooded area as this can be invaluable in assisting the cleaning specialists when they arrive.
Determine the Source
Begin by taking a peek at the area to determine the origin of the water. The cause of the flooding is sometimes torrential rains. Other times, the sewer may be involved, which significantly complicates the issue. If you are not able to take a quick look and determine where the water is coming from, be sure to explain this to the professionals.
Determine the Water Quality
Take a look at the surface of the water and determine its quality. It is important for you to avoid touching the water with your hands as this could contaminate your skin. Sometimes, clear water may imply a broken pipe or rainwater line. If the water has an awful odor or is thick, it is important to avoid going near it. Tell the experts ASAP, and they will take care of it.
Remove Furniture Quickly
If there is no risk of electrocution in the basement and it is actively flooding, you can help minimize the damage by getting rid of some furniture and boxes. Try to move the items as quickly as you can to avoid the risk of contamination. Make sure that you do not go into the water during this process if it looks unclean.
